Science behind Blackhead:

The pores on the skin produces oily substance called as sebum. The sebum helps in keeping the skin moist. However when it is overproduced, it forms pugs by making the pores clogged. The open plugs are called blackheads whereas closed plugs are called whiteheads.

As blackheads are open to air, they turn into black as sebum gets oxidized. These skin pores are usually the hair follicles. Surplus sebum gets clumped with dead skin cells and blocks those hair follicles. Scientifically blackheads are type of acne that usually occur on face, back, chest and arms and shoulder areas.

Over secretion of sebum is caused by many factors

  • Hormonal imbalance.
  • Dietary habits.
  • Use of cosmetics.
  • Types of cleansers.
  • Triggering medication.
  • Improper skin care.
  • Increased stress levels.
  • Genetically inheritance.

It is considered to be one of the most common skin disorder that occurs in both men and women at any stage of life. They can be extremely small almost invisible and sometimes they can be quite embarrassing. But is always better to get rid of them and clear your skin from such clogs.

  1. Sugar:

A good scrub contributes greatly in removing the dead skin cells. The exfoliation caused by massaging scrub on the skin clears the pores from all the unwanted elements. The dust particles, dead skin cells clumps with the oils of the skin. Daily gentle scrub can avoid the problem of blackheads and whiteheads effectively. If u don’t have a scrub at home you can always use sugar as a substitute. It helps in instant circulation of blood flow giving you a radiant glow. It makes skin smooth and soft as well.

How to use it:

Take one tablespoon sugar in a bowl. Squeeze fresh lemon juice into it. If you have olive oil add one teaspoon of it in the mixture. Combine well. With help of fingertips apply it on face and massage for a while in circular motion around eyes and on cheeks. Also apply a little amount on neck as well.  This regulates the blood, clears the pores and therefore prevents blackheads. Do it twice or thrice a week and not daily as it may make your skin dry.

  1. Cinnamon:

Some of kitchen spices works miracle on your skin and cinnamon powder is no less. It has anti-bacterial properties which helps in clearing the skin from all sort of dirt and debris. It soothes your skin and its aromatic mask pleases you anyway.

How to Use it:

Take cinnamon powder around two teaspoon and mix it well with equal amount of honey. You can always add nutmeg powder in small quantity if available. Mix it well and apply as a mask on your face. Let it rest for 10 minutes and then gently take it off. You will see visible cleared skin taking off all the flaky dead skin cells and letting the moisture. Repeat it on every alternate day and have a healthy beautiful looking skin.

  1. Lemon Juice Extract:

Lemon is famous for its essential nutrients best for skin. It helps greatly in treating many acne conditions like blackheads. Rich in minerals and nutrients gives you the natural glow by clearing up the skin pores from sebum clustered up with dead skin. Lemon also brighten ups the overall skin ton and lighten ups the skin texture.

How to Use it:

Squeeze fresh lemon juice. Add a good amount of honey into it. Apply it on freshly washed face and apply it on face and neck area. It will dry up in 10 to 15 minutes. Peel it off gently and see the immediate results.


  • Lemon extract is highly concentrated so it should be applied only once a week else it will make your skin dry.
  • If the mask is causing mild irritation then add less amount of lemon in the blend next time.
  • In case of severe irritation, remove the mask immediately and wash with ice cold water to stop inflammation. This may occur if your skin is prone to allergies.
  1. Baking Soda:

It is easiest way of clearing the stubborn blocked pores and prevent from blackheads to appear again for quite a while. Baking soda helps in clearing skin impurities which gets caught by excess oils of the hair follicles. Gives you clean and fresh looking after few applications of it.

How to use it:

Take two teaspoon of baking soda and add small amount of water in it. Keep the consistency thick enough to be applied as a mask on face. Let it dry for few minutes. Wash it well and apply good moisturizer later.

  1. Oatmeal:

Oatmeal as we all know is an energy rich food full of nutrition.  The grains in oatmeal act as powerhouse because of its amazing components. It helps in making skin healthy enough to fight against skin problems. Blackheads get removed easily by its use on regular basis.

How to use it:

Cook small amount of oatmeal and let it cool for some time. Apply it as mask and let it dry. Wash or scrub away the mask after 10 minutes.

  1. Turmeric:

Turmeric is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It is used traditionally from ancient times relating skin problems. Turmeric has tremendous healing powers and gives radiance to the skin. It is easy to make and apply. So it twice a week.

How to use it:

Take enough amount of turmeric powder in a bowl and mix it well with water. Keep in mind the consistency of the blend to be applied as a mask so it may not drip. Do not rub hard after 10 minutes when the mask dries up.

Honey acts as incredible antibacterial for skin protecting skin from various skin disorders. It has antiseptic elements in it as well that helps fighting against different germs and keeps the skin protected. Honey also inhibits antibiotic nature which clear the skin pores clean and tight thus preventing blackheads formation. Honey keeps the skin hydrated but tightens it at the same time.

How to use it:

Apply raw honey directly on face and neck area and it gets absorbed by the skin for at least 10-15 minutes. Wash it gently after that with lukewarm water. Skin will look supple and fresh instantly.

  1. Egg Whites:

This remedy works magic on oily skin prone to blackheads. As we know egg whites are rich in protein and collagen components. They help in tightening of the skin pores and reduces its size. Eggs white clears excess sebum and dead skin cells and cures persistent development of blackheads.

How to do it:

Separate the egg whites from yolk and beat it until frothy. The foamy texture becomes easy to apply on face with help of a spoon or fingertips. Let the layer of egg whites rest on your face for few minutes and wash it later. Use any good moisturizer after this remedy and keep the healthy looking.
