Tongue blisters can be because of any reason. They might be indicative of food allergies or mouth ulcers. Enlarged papillae of the tongue and some medical diseases like anemia or diabetes can also contribute to blister formation. These blisters can also show up if you accidently bite your tongue. Other reasons that contribute to blister formation include deficiency of vitamin B, certain hazardous mouthwashes and even consuming too much fat in your meals.Tongue blisters vary regarding color. They can either be white or yellow, and a flushed area usually surrounds them. These blisters tend to last for about a week only, but the inflammation and the pain which they bring along might make you feel irritated. You can also find it difficult to enjoy your meals with blisters on your tongue.

If these nasty tongue blisters are making your life miserable, you don’t need to wait for them to go away naturally after a week. And this certainly does not mean that you will have to apply dangerous chemicals on your tongue to get relief. There are plenty of home remedies that can help alleviate the signs of pain and swelling of a tongue blister. Some of these remedies have been compiled below:

1)    Salt

Salt naturally possesses anti-bacterial properties and is perfect for treating tongue blisters. For using salt to cure tongue blisters, what you will need is a cup of lukewarm water and a pinch of salt. Mix the salt in water and keep swishing the solution within your mouth for some time after which you can remove it. Afterwards, you can directly put a tiny amount of salt on the blister for a minute or two. Rinse your mouth and repeat this remedy for 3 to 4 times every day and your tongue blisters will be gone before you know it.


2)    Ice

Ice is a cooling effect which can provide numbness to your tongue. You can soothe your tongue blisters by using ice which will also treat the two most common symptoms of these blisters- swelling and pain. All you need for this remedy to work is a few ice chips and some motivation to proceed. Place some ice chips on your tongue and wait for it to become numb. If you are not comfortable enough to place some ice directly on your tongue, you can drink chilled water from time to time for observing the same effects.

3)    Baking Soda

Baking soda has anti-inflammatory properties which is obviously making it suitable for the treatment of tongue blisters. Because it has an alkaline nature, it can also normalize the pH of the mouth. To use baking soda, add a teaspoon into one cup of lukewarm water. Take a sip and keep swishing the solution in your mouth for some time. Alternatively, add very little amount of water into baking soda and make a paste. Apply the paste on the blisters for a few minutes and wash the tongue afterwards.

4)    Aloe Vera

Because of its naturally healing properties, aloe vera can also treat blisters present on the tongue. You need to have a fresh leaf of aloe vera to make this remedy more effective. Grab a leaf and take out the gel from it. You can apply the gel on the blisters for 5 minutes after which you should wash your mouth. Repeating this process 3 to 4 times for 4 days can heal up your blisters without making you feel uncomfortable.

5)    Turmeric

Suffering from inflammation and pain due to tongue blisters? Turmeric is there to rescue you!  With its powerful antiseptic effects, turmeric can heal your blisters in no time. You can mix some turmeric powder with a bit of honey and apply it on the blisters. Leave it for some time and wash your mouth with water afterwards. Repeat it several times for 3 to 4 days. If you like milk, you can add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder into it and drink it to treat the tongue blisters as well.

6)    Hydrogen Peroxide

If you feel that the blisters in your tongue are due to canker sores, hydrogen peroxide can help you. Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful disinfectant with anti-bacterial properties which can not only kill the pathogens but also decrease the risk of developing an infection. Don’t forget to use 3 percent of hydrogen peroxide to treat blisters. You have to mix it with water in equal amount and soak cotton balls in the solution. Place the cotton balls on the blister for a few minutes and rinse the mouth later. You can repeat this process 3 to 4 times a day.

7)    Vitamin B

Tongue blisters are often a manifestation of a deficiency of vitamin B. So, if you are experiencing these blisters, you should eat foods rich in vitamin B. this is the simplest and a great cure for tongue blisters as well as the pain that accompanies them. Wondering which food items contain high levels of vitamin B? There are lots of them. You can eat eggs, bananas, oats, whole grains and fish to boost your vitamin B level. People who like dairy products can consume a lot of milk, yogurt and cheese to make up for the deficiency.

8)    Natural Oil

Different types of oils can have a relieving effect on the tongue blisters. You can prepare a mixture of these oils in a perfect blend to use as a spray. Just mix 2 spoons of olive oil with a few drops of eucalyptus oil and grape seed oil. Lastly, add peppermint oil and mix the solution. In order to use this mixture more conveniently, place it in a spray bottle. You can spray this oil mixture directly onto your blisters whenever you like. Repeat it 2-3 times every day until you start observing effects.

9)    Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has anti-bacterial as well as certain antiseptic properties which can make it a good solution to fight those pesky blisters popping up on your tongue. Get your hands on a bottle of tea tree oil and add a few drops of it into a glass of water. Mix it thoroughly and rinse your mouth with the solution properly. You can do the rinsing twice every day to make the blisters disappear.

10)    Coriander

Due to its strong anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, coriander also will effectively treat tongue blisters and relieve the accompanying pain and inflammation. Boil a few coriander seeds in water. You can use coriander leaves too if seeds ar not available. Strain the solution and use it to wash your mouth deeply from inside. Rinse your mouth 3 to 4 times a day to feel better.
