Mosquitoes are the natural part of our environment but most of the people hate them for buzzing around. Especially when the summer season starts, the mosquitoes also start invading your houses. Despite the smaller size, the problem they cause is comparatively big. Imagine the tiny flying insect buzzing around and biting you. Isn’t this annoying and disturbing? There are several commercial products available to get rid of the mosquitoes. The most common of them is a “mosquito repellent” which is in the form of a serum or lotion. These serums are applied to the skin directly. These insect repellent aren’t safe especially the one with N, N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide, also known as DEET which is harmful to humans.  So what is the solution then? If the commercial products are not safe, there must be something which is safe, effective and easy to use. Here are 10 simple solutions to work against mosquitoes. Try them at home and get rid of the discomfort and disease risk.

  • Use Eucalyptus Oil

Essential oils are thought to be most reactive for mosquitoes i.e. lemon, eucalyptus oil. This remedy is supported by the scientific evidence obtained from the research results. You can purchase these essential oils easily from the market. However, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers aren’t advised to use them without consulting their health service provider. Mix lemon eucalyptus oil with hazel in 1:10 parts. Mix it well and pour it into a spray bottle. Use this spray on the skin every 3 hours to repel the mosquitoes.

  • Aroma Therapy With Lavender Oil

Lavender is a refreshing herb with the beautiful aroma. It is a part of various aromatherapy treatments. Lavender has a natural capacity to repel all insects including mosquitoes. You can try it at home for fragrant air and bug removal. Take Lavender oil and rub it on your wrists and neck with the cotton puff. It will prevent the mosquitoes to attack you. You can also use lavender oil or lavender scented candles at home to repel all types of bugs. It will not only reduce the insect threshold but also give your house a beautiful fragrance.

  • The Cinematic Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a multi-beneficial herb which is commonly kept in the kitchen. You can use them in recipes or tea for the beautiful aroma and medicinal benefits. Fewer people know that cinnamon oil is an effective remedy to kill and repel mosquitoes. It is a safe and environment-friendly product to use. For this reason, it can be used as a natural mosquito repellent and as an alternative of DEET. Add one-fourth teaspoon cinnamon oil to one cup ( 4 oz) water. Mix it well and use its a spray to repel bugs. You can also add cinnamon oil to any carrier oil, for example, coconut or olive oil and use it on the skin as a mosquito repellent. It works well either way. You cannot use concentrated cinnamon oil directly to skin or oral consumption as it is highly reactive.

  • Coffee

Everyone likes coffee and the good thing is that coffee ground is helpful to repel mosquitoes. You can just sprinkle coffee grounds in any stagnant water near your house.  The coffee will make all the deep laid mosquitoes eggs to come to the water surface. Once they reach the surface, the oxygen levels are disturbed and they are dead before hatching. This is a simple and easy remedy to control the mosquitoes.

  • Thyme

Thyme is a herb which has many healing properties. Thyme has a mosquito-repelling power which can be utilized for mosquito repelling at home. The phytochemicals of neem kill all types of bugs including mosquitoes.  Take neem leaves and crush them in your hands. You can also rub neem oil with any carrier oil with 1:3 ratio and use it on skin. Do not apply neem oil directly as it is highly active. You can also burn dry neem leaves, the smoke of which kill all the mosquitoes. Do not use it if you have a respiratory disease or allergy.

  • Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is an essential oil which has various properties. It is a natural antiseptic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agent. Tea Tree oil can reduce mosquitoes to bite you. You can use a diluted solution of tea tree oil with a carrier oil in 1:3 ratio and use it on the skin every few hours.

  • Citronella Candles

Citronella candles are commonly available in the market. Citronella keeps the mosquitoes away from attacking you. The candles are made of herbs which are potentially active for bug repellent. Buy it from the market and use the candles in corners of the house safely.

  • Vinegar

Vinegar is a common kitchen ingredient. You can use apple cider vinegar to repel mosquitoes. Mix vinegar with water and use it on the skin. The only irritant is the pungent smell of vinegar which will not be pleasant.

  • Use Mosquito Trap Net

Mosquito traps are a safe choice to prevent mosquito attack. Always sleep with mosquito net around your bed. It will help you to sleep peacefully.
