What are Ringworms?

Ringworm, medically known as “tinea”, is a skin infection caused by fungus. It can occur at any part of the body from head to toe. They are highly contagious and can spread to other parts of the body or can transfer to any other person who gets in contact with the infected area. They seem usually in round shape with bit raised border, thus named as ringworms. They are itchy in nature and red in appearance. Fungal infection like ringworm grows in optimal conditions like warm and moist places. They commonly appear on scalp, face, hand, fingernails, feet, toenails and groin area. The symptoms of ringworm appear after several days of getting infected.

As Ringworms are dangerously transmittable, therefore many careful measures need to be taken once you are affected by it. You need to keep the patch dry and it shouldn’t get in touch with other things like towel, sheets etc.

Before using any chemical based medical ointment for it, you can try following very effective home remedies to cure ringworms.

  1. Garlic:

Garlic is the powerhouse in fighting against fungal infections of the skin. It contains ajoene which is particularly known to heal fungus infected areas of the body. Garlic helps greatly in the natural treatment of skin problems.

How to Use it:

  • Take a garlic clove and cut it into thin slices. Put the slices on the affected area and let it rest for at least two hours. Remove the garlic slices and discard immediately. Wash the infected patch and repeat in twice daily.
  • Make a paste of garlic and put it gently on ringworm. Let the garlic ingredients get penetrated into the skin. You can always use a bandage for this purpose so it may help in keeping the garlic paste in one place and may not slide away. After two hours remove the bandage and wash it.
  • Crush garlic cloves and add honey and olive oil in it. Make a paste and apply it on ringworm. Wash it after two hours. Repeat it twice or thrice daily for at least a week to get maximum benefits.

In any of the above case if skin feels itchy and swollen, remove garlic instantly. Wash skin area to stay away from any sort of skin allergy.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar:

This home remedy is easiest and highly effective to treat ringworms. Apple Cider Vinegar contains acetic acid which has the property of combating fungal problems. If it is used regularly without skipping a session, it guarantees to eliminate ringworm within two weeks. It also ensures protection in re-appearance of ringworm on skin.

Apple Cider Vinegar treats the skin issue completely as it comprises strong healing powers. Before applying this remedy, you need to make a small test to check on any sort of skin allergy or skin reactions.

How to Use it:

Simple damp cotton or washcloth in apple cider vinegar and apply it on ringworm. Initially, it will give stinging feeling but will start to fade away with time. Do this for half an hour and repeat the process for at least 3-4 times daily to get ringworm healed within the period of two weeks.

  1. Turmeric:

Turmeric has been used in skin related complications for ages. Since ancient times, turmeric is known for its abundant advantages especially in the treatment of infections. This plant root has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-fungal properties and therefore plays a major role in the healing of ringworms.

How to Use it:

  • You can simple slice garlic and place few of its slices on affected area. To keep it intact with the ringworm, use a gauze or bandage to cover it well.
  • Make a paste of garlic and same way place it on ringworm. These anti-fungal properties would heal ringworm by repeating it thrice daily.
  • You can also make a paste of garlic powder along with water to place it on ringworm.
  1. Tea Tree Oil:

It is easily available in the marketplace and is popular in healing burns and another different sort of wounds. Tea tree oil has antiseptic and anti-fungal properties and it aids greatly in the treatment of ringworms. Test the undiluted 100% pure tea tree oil on some other patch of skin. In the case of any skin irritation and raising of skin surface happens, discontinue the use.

How to Use tea Tree Oil:

Damp cotton ball in tea tree oil and pat it on the ringworm. Within few days of regular use of tea tree oil, ringworm will vanish.

  1. Myrrh:

This herb has being used medicinally and for other purposes since Egyptian times. The myrrh oil inhibits antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antimicrobial and many other such properties. It helps greatly in getting rid of ringworms by washing the affected area with it on regular basis. This herb is now being used in many skin products because of its remarkable results.

How to Use it:

Take myrrh oil and dissolve few drops of it in water. Wash the ringworm with this water gently. You can also apply oil and water mix with the help of cotton on the affected area. Do it twice or thrice daily for at least 10 days consecutively and see its amazing consequences on your skin.

  1. Aloe Vera:

As we all know aloe vera benefits the skin in many ways because of its essential properties. It is anti-inflammatory in nature and gives skins soothing effect. It is an all-natural remedy which has been used over many years.

How to Use it:

Take a fresh gel from aloe vera plant by slicing one of its leaves. Apply it directly on the ringworm and let it rest for several hours or you can leave it for overnight. Wash it in the morning. Do this every day and night and see the quick healing of ringworm within few days.

  1. Lemongrass Tea:

The itchiness in ringworms is very common and hard to get rid of. The affected area gets dry and brittle. To hydrate the skin underneath, you need to drink lemongrass tea thrice daily. It will instantly remove the itchy feeling and bring relief. The used lemongrass tea bags can also be applied on ringworm for the healing and also to give a calming effect.
